Celebrate USGBC's 25th Anniversary by Taking on the USGBC-NCR Membership Challenge

This year’s A Midsummer Night’s Green was packed with exciting announcements, from our 2018 Community Leader Awards winners to our new pilot Mentorship Program to our upcoming Zero Waste Campaign. Rhiannon Jacobsen, U.S. Green Building Council Senior Vice President, closed out our Awards Ceremony with some extra special news: USGBC is turning 25 this year, and to celebrate we are calling on our members and stakeholders to participate in a new Membership Challenge.

The Goal: Build the Next Generation of Green Building Champions

25 years ago, the U.S. Green Building Council started out as a wild “back of the napkin” dream, an idea brought to life by a small, passionate group of people dedicated to the purpose of changing the building industry and with the ultimate ambition of putting ourselves out of business. Here we are, two and a half decades later, and we are still innovating. In the past several years we’ve seen the evolution of LEED from the building scale to cities and communities. We’ve seen LEED v4.1 begin to take hold in the existing building marketplace.

Our impact on the building industry is undeniable, but, try as we might, we have not yet put ourselves out of business. Work remains to be done. As we begin to see our first generation of green building champions retire and look to the future, the time has come to reach further and grow our coalition of change-makers so together we can advance our cause for the next 25 years.

The Challenge: Grow our Community

With this goal in mind, USGBC National Capital Region is putting out a challenge to our members and stakeholders to bring new individuals to the table. The Challenge is two-fold:

  1. We’re challenging all of our members and event attendees through the end of 2018 to bring one emerging professional who has not been involved before to any of our regular education events* on a ‘buy one get one free’ pass. Simply have the name and email address of the emerging professional on hand when registering for the event.

  2. Any current USGBC National Capital Region community member who nominates a brand new member before the end of 2018, will get 50% off their next individual membership renewal, AND the new member gets a comp code for their membership. To redeem this offer, email dmvmembershipchallenge@usgbc.org and provide the new member’s name and email address.

The Call to Action: The Next 25 Years Begins with You

A Midsummer Night’s Green is our annual celebration of how far we have come and of the amazing accomplishments of our local DMV community, which shines as a national leader in the sustainable building movement. As we look to the future, our greatest hope and most valuable resource is you – our members and supporters who commit themselves to the mission of bringing green buildings to all. We invite you to share your passion and to introduce your colleagues and friends to our movement. The next 25 years begins with you.

*This offer applies to regular education events run by the USGBC National Capital Region community. Excludes summits, galas, and Women in Green. Additional exclusions may apply. See our event-specific web pages for details.
